How to save money now
Let’s get down to some saving.
1. Cook at home
Cooking your own delicious food at home not only saves you a lot of money, it can be a much healthier option. Loaded with super fresh fruits, vegetable’s, and ingredients of your choice. Your body and wallet will thank you.
2. Cancel unused subscriptions
That $20 subscription for an app you don’t use is costing you $240 a year. Do an audit check of your subscriptions. Whether it be the gym, tennis club, streaming service or an app, if you have not used it for over three months take a pause. Consider if you want to keep paying or cancel.
3. Car expense hacks
Keep your tires inflated as your vehicle then uses less fuel. Make one trip and combine tasks to save fuel. And finally regularly service your car to minimize the chances of expensive repair bills.
4. Generic brands can be the way to go
Often generic brands can save you a lot of money while also being of better quality than named brands. This can apply to items ranging from food to clothing. Some generic brands and named brands are even made in the same factory.
Try the generic brands out. If it’s good and you like it, pocket the savings. If it does not measure up, go for the name brand.
5. Buy things in bulk you will definitely use
Buying things in bulk can be a winning strategy to save money. Ensure the items will be used before any expiry date or are non perishables.
Also take note of the unit price, making sure the bulk buy actually carries a lower cost per item.
6. Keep a shopping list
When you go shopping keep a shopping list to avoid buying things you don’t want or need.
Keep a permanent list in on your phone, app, or a piece of paper, with approximate prices. This helps you buy things when they actually carry a lower price than the average. A big sticker saying special does not always mean the item is cheaper, than what it usually is.
7. Regularly compare the prices between power, internet and insurance providers
There are many websites and apps that compare prices of power, internet and insurance providers. Some of these even make switching between providers easy.
With items such as insurance, your annual renewal letter is often the perfect chance to check out the competition and perhaps save some money.
Keep in mind however that the cheapest is not always the best option. Compare the features, coverage and overall value before choosing.
8. Save money by combing costs and bundling
You can often get big discounts combining house, contents, and car insurance with one provider.
The same applies for utility bundling with many money saving deals for combing power, broadband, gas, and mobile.
9. Price check and compare, especially for big ticket items
Compare prices across retailers, both online and in-store. The price differences for the same item can be huge. Especially for those big ticket items.
Take a bit of time and research, this can save you money, big time.
10. Track your spending with Apps & Templates
Track your spending with apps to make it simple. They can sort your purchases, highlight waste, and spot unused subscriptions.
